Kendall Ray McDonald of Charlotte, NC passed away on July 21, 2017.  He was born in Southern Pines, NC on December 6, 1961, the son of Joe and Abby McDonald.
Memorial service will be held 3:00 PM, Sunday, August 6, 2017 at Powell Funeral Home Chapel, Southern Pines, NC
Kendall was a graduate of the University of NC at Chapel Hill with a BA in Psychology and had a career in the field of social services.  His education, however, was carried on far beyond the classroom.  He was an avid self-taught student of religion, philosophy, cosmology, quantum mechanics, art, music, health, and nutrition.  He was an accomplished painter of landscapes and still life.  He was a guitar player and was the author of several original songs.  At the time of his death, he was working on a book on religion and philosophy.
Kendall was completely devoted to his family, spending much of his time finding ways to help them and to brighten their day.  He was loved and cherished by his family and many friends.  Kendall is survived by his parents Joe and Abby McDonald of Hoffman, NC; sisters: Lara Hill and Lia Scovil of Charlotte; brother Brenton McDonald of Charlotte; nephew Joseph Hill; and nieces Lee Hill, Paige Hill, Rayenne Scovil, and Ashlyn Scovil.  He is also survived by many other loving relatives, including aunts, uncles, and cousins.  He had an especially close lifelong relationship with his aunt Kasey McDonald Monroe.
He was preceded in death by his loving grandparents, Mildred McDonald and Ray McDonald of Southern Pines and Ruth and Alex Kennedy of Pinehurst.
Arrangement will be handled by Powell Funeral Home of Southern Pines.
