Mrs. Kathryn Lee Cockman Fields, age 85, of Carthage, NC, gained her angel
wings February 19, 2020, at Fox Hollow Senior Living Center under the care
of Hospice. Born and raised in Carthage, NC, Kathryn was preceded in death
by her parents, Peter Wesley Cockman and Alma Hancock Cockman, her brother
Edward Cockman, and her husband James Blue Fields, all of Carthage, NC.
Kathryn graduated from Carthage High School with honors with the Class of
1952. She married her high school sweetheart, Jim and they lived in Raleigh
where he finished NC State University and son, Samuel was born. Jim became
a Vocational Agriculture teacher and they lived and worked for many years
in Dover, NC in Craven County. It was there that son, Stuart was born. Upon
returning to Moore County to live in the early sixties Jim began teaching
Vocational Agriculture at Pinecrest High School while he and Kathryn
welcomed their only daughter, Hope to the family fold. They built their
home, attended Culdee Presbyterian Church, reared a family and prospered.

In 1968 Kathryn joined the Central Office staff of the Moore County Schools
where she served as an Administrative Assistant working directly with the
school system central staff as well as the assistant superintendents.
Later, she served as the private secretary and assistant of Superintendent
Robert E. Lee and the Board of Education for many years. Kathryn attended
college courses and specialty-training attaining the Certified Professional
Standard through the NC Association of EOP; the accrediting agency.

Kathryn lived life as few others have. She was kind, loving, generous,
out-going and a doer of good for others. She arranged annual family
vacations for all the Fields uncles, aunts, cousins and family usually at
the beaches of North Carolina for years. After retirement in 1994, she and
Jim trekked all about going to grandchildren's activities, on trips
exploring, as well as to bluegrass and country music festivals and shows
including most famous musicians in that venue…like Waylon and Willie and
the boys. They had great times together. She especially loved collecting
angels, local pottery and had an eye to find milk glass on any adventure.
Kathryn was a spiritual person who genuinely loved people and helped others
her entire life. She encouraged and nurtured her children, their larger
family relatives, and her huge number of personal friends and professional
colleagues. Her family was the center of her heart. She is survived by her
three children and their families. They are her son Samuel Fields of
Carthage, NC and his two children: James (Ashley) Fields and Ellen (Kory)
Duncan, both of Carthage, NC; her son Stuart (Deborah) Fields of Carthage,
NC: their sons: Bryan (Lesley) Fields of Charlotte, NC and Patrick (Ashley)
Fields of Cameron, NC; her daughter Hope (Bob) Keistler of Wilmington, NC
and their two sons: Will (Morgan) Keistler and Wesley Keistler both of
Wilmington, NC and daughter Millie Rose Keistler of Wilmington, NC.
Additionally, Grandma Kathryn is survived by four great-grandchildren. They
are Campbell and Bryce Fields, Sarah James Fields, and Quincey Duncan.

The Fields' family will greet friends, family and neighbors on Saturday,
February 22nd at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00pm in
Carthage, NC and at other times at the family home 5320 NC Hwy 22,
